Re: When to support Unicode Tibetan fonts?
Soon, I hope. Maybe a few months? I wish I could give you a better answer. Any more movement on this? I realize you only asked a simple question (a good one) but perhaps it will be useful if I explain further. I am working on the conversion every day and have been for several months. I have all the...

Hi, Cfynn, Yes, copy that DLL into local directory is good method. But I just try to think the way as the FWJ's, it maybe possible that somebody ask FWJ "Why my MS word can show this well, but Pechamaker cannot!". Then just find that, the MS update the DLL, but PechaMake not update it to local dire...

Re: When to support Unicode Tibetan fonts?
I have just returned from India/Nepal where I visited a half dozen Monasteries, the LTWA and TCRC and other Tibetan publishing organizations. I found that PechaMaker is appreciated and well received. However, I did not find a single Tibetan who was actually using Unicode for any project or document...

Hi, Cfynn, I think if possible, just use the DLL, do not copy. Due to that DLL will update by microsoft, it will not update to copyed-one. B.R. jeff Dear Jeff If you install and updated USP10.DLL in a private program directory. such as the one PechaMaker is installed in. there is no problem -and a ...

A version of Uniscribe that works with Tibetan is already on a users system if: 1. user is using Windows Vista or Windows 7 2. user has MS Office 2003 SP 2 or above installed 3. user has Miicrosoft's free Word Viewer installed 4. user has manually updsated usp10.dll in Windows\System32 Could the PM ...

Now that support for Tibetan Unicode is *standard* in Windows (Vista), Mac OSX (Leopard), Linux and an increasing number of applications - perhaps it is now time to move on this?

Re: Tibetan Line breaking options
... that last bit has been my contention all along, that there is no standard. One could also say that there are several "standards" which some of the people who follow each of them will insist is the correct standard. On the examples of dropped tsheg that you have seen, did they use "full justific...

Re: Odd line counts
Well, anything auspicious seems like a good idea to me. :) Chris, do you think I should raise the limits to 7, 13, and 21? If it might make someone feel better then I'm all for it. Why not - Tibetans do consider odd numbers to be auspicious, though old pecha with 6 lines is also common. - Chris

BTW I've run into a few Tibetans who insist that to have odd numbers of lines on pages (five or seven) is more auspicious and that even numbers of lines should be avoided. This idea seems to be something confined to people from particular areas (or maybe to the particularly superstitious) since ther...

Tibetan Line breaking options
I've recently been coming across quite a number of very carefully calligraphed Tibetan ( chos skad ) manuscripts in Bhutan where tsheg is never used at the end of lines (and of course never used to pad lines to achieve justification). I guess the line break itself was considered enough to delimit th...

The actual textual content of most traditional Tibetan books is of course usually long out of copyright - same for things like the Chandra Das dictionary. So, if you can extract the plain text, I guess you can use it. "Reverse engineering" of file formats in order to read them is usually OK too - pr...

I have asked and asked and one can seem to make me understand what and the importance of Unicode fonts. Anyone wish to share with me why we need them. Well Unicode is an international standard, text based encoding - not a non-standard, font / glyph based encoding. One thing this means that your tex...
